Best IELTS Preparation Platforms (2026)
Criteria-first review of IELTS prep platforms for 2026: Daily English Pro, IELTS.org, British Council, IDP, IELTS Liz and Cambridge, with strengths and gaps.
What an IELTS prep platform actually has to do
No single website covers everything. IELTS preparation splits into four jobs: official rules and booking, strategy lessons, timed practice, and feedback on Writing and Speaking. A platform that is excellent at one job is often thin at another, which is why a single ranked list of "the best" can mislead you.
We run Daily English Pro, so this is an editorial review from a participant, not a neutral referee. Our own strengths are timed computer-based mocks, section practice, the Writing Checker and a large Guides library. Official sites are the authority on booking and rules. Tip sites are often better at teaching strategy. Where someone else wins a category, we say so.

| Your job | Strongest fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Book the test, check ID and fee rules | British Council or IDP, depending on your country | They run registration and set local policy |
| Understand format and scoring | IELTS.org | Neutral, global overview of the test |
| Timed full-length practice on screen | Daily English Pro mock tests | Computer-based player built for L/R/W/S pacing |
| Strategy lessons and free tips | IELTS Liz | Large archive of lessons by question type |
| Authentic past-paper style books | Cambridge English IELTS | Publisher-linked practice material |
How we judged each platform
A feature list tells you little. These five criteria predict whether you will still be using a platform in week six.
- Exam fidelity: does the interface, timing and question style match what you will see on test day?
- Feedback quality: do you learn why an answer was wrong, or only that it was?
- Coverage: all four skills, or one corner of the test?
- Cost clarity: is the free layer genuinely useful, and are paid limits easy to find?
- Authority: is the content from the test owners, a publisher, or an independent author?
Daily English Pro: timed practice and tools
Daily English Pro is built around practice you can run like the real test. The mock tests use a computer-based layout with timers, so Listening and Reading pacing is rehearsed rather than guessed. Section pages for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking let you drill one skill when a full mock is too much.

The Writing Checker gives criterion-style feedback on Task 1 and Task 2 drafts. Treat it as a fast revision loop, not an official score. Paid plans exist; compare free and Pro limits on pricing before you commit.

Pros
Where it is strong
Practice that feels like the exam, plus tools and Guides in one account.
- •Timed CBT-style mocks
- •Section drills for all four skills
- •Writing Checker for quick drafts
- •Free Guides library
Limits
Where it is not the answer
It does not replace official channels or a human examiner.
- •No test booking
- •AI feedback is an estimate
- •Speaking still needs real conversation practice
Official sources: IELTS.org, British Council and IDP
IELTS.org is the global overview: formats, scoring, recognition and links to the delivery partners. It is the safest page to read before you trust any claim about how the test works.

British Council Take IELTS handles registration in its markets and publishes preparation resources and public descriptors. Its strength is authority. Its weakness, for most learners, is volume: you will not find a deep bank of timed mocks there.

IDP IELTS does the same job where IDP delivers the test, with centre search and booking. Some markets also offer prep products from IDP. Check what is available in your country and what it costs.

Tip sites and publisher material
IELTS Liz is a long-running teacher-led site with lessons sorted by skill and question type. It is excellent for learning strategy for free. It is less suited to full timed CBT rehearsal, so pair it with a mock platform.

The Cambridge English IELTS page points to publisher-backed preparation material, including the practice test book series many teachers rely on. Books give authentic-style papers, but not on-screen timing or instant marking, so many learners combine them with computer-based practice.

| Platform | Best for | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Daily English Pro | Timed CBT practice, tools, Guides | Not an official source; no booking |
| IELTS.org | Format and scoring facts | Light on practice volume |
| British Council | Booking and policy in BC markets | Limited mock depth |
| IDP | Booking and policy in IDP markets | Prep options vary by country |
| IELTS Liz | Free strategy lessons | Not a CBT simulator |
| Cambridge English | Publisher practice material | Mostly books, no live marking |

Frequently asked questions
Which single platform is best for IELTS?+
There is no honest single answer. Use an official site for rules, a mock platform such as Daily English Pro for timed practice, and a tip site for strategy. The right mix depends on your weakest skill.
Are free platforms enough for band 7?+
Sometimes, if you are disciplined. Free tips and samples cover strategy. The hard part is timed volume and feedback on Writing and Speaking. See best free IELTS practice websites for what free actually covers.
Can an online platform replace a teacher?+
For Listening and Reading, often yes. For Writing and Speaking, tools can speed up revision, but a skilled human can catch problems tools miss. Many learners use both.
Is Daily English Pro affiliated with IELTS?+
No. It is independent of IELTS.org, the British Council, IDP and Cambridge. Always confirm booking, fees and rules on the official pages.
How often do these platforms change?+
Often. Prices, free limits and features shift, so verify on the live site. We update this review when we notice changes.
