You are about to start a short Reading practice. Every question comes from a real IELTS test. After you submit, you also get an explanation of the answers.

What you are practising
Academic Reading uses three long passages. General Training uses sections that move from everyday texts to a longer passage. This sprint gives you one passage so you can work on question types without sitting a full hour.
The passage stays on screen while you answer, and you can highlight text or add a note the way you do on the computer test.
When you want the full hour, take a free mock test. If one question type keeps costing marks, open the Reading guides.
Question types you may see
- 1True, False, Not Given and Yes, No, Not Given.
- 2Matching headings, features, or sentence endings, and completion tasks.
- 3Multiple choice that asks for a main idea or a specific detail.
A short method
Read the questions and mark names, dates, and contrast words before you read every line.
For Not Given, decide whether the passage is silent. A contradiction is False or No.
Keep the passage wording and the question wording apart. The answer is often a paraphrase, not a copied line.
Example
Two examples of how a reading question can turn on one phrase in the passage.
The passage says the museum opened in 1998. The question says it opened in the late 1990s.
True. Late 1990s matches 1998. You do not need the exact year to be repeated if the time phrase covers it.
The question says visitors dislike the cafe. The passage never mentions the cafe.
Not Given. Missing information is not the same as a statement the passage denies.
Reading sprint questions
What is the difference between False and Not Given?
False means the passage says the opposite of the statement. Not Given means the passage does not give you enough to say true or false. If you cannot point to a sentence that contradicts the statement, do not choose False.
How many questions are in a sprint?
About 10, kept inside the groups they belong to so a matching set is not split in half. A full Academic paper has 40 questions.
Academic or General Training?
The draw can come from either module. Task 1 writing is the part that changes most between modules. Reading passages differ too, but the question types overlap.
Do I need to register first?
No. Register or log in after you submit if you want the answers and explanations.
