Overall score vs per-skill floors
An overall band is the average of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Admissions teams and regulators increasingly publish a second rule: no skill below a stated floor. That is why Writing or Speaking can block an application even when the overall score looks fine.
Canada's Express Entry mapping is skill-by-skill through CLB. Australia's points test rewards higher English levels beyond the minimum. UK Student and Work routes may map to CEFR levels and sometimes require IELTS for UKVI rather than standard IELTS.
