9Expert user — fully operational command; accurate, appropriate, fluent.
8Very good user — occasional unsystematic inaccuracies; handles complex language well.
7Good user — operational command with occasional inaccuracies; handles complex language.
6Competent user — generally effective despite inaccuracies; can use fairly complex language.
5Modest user — partial command; copes with overall meaning in most situations.
4Limited user — basic competence limited to familiar situations.
3Extremely limited user — conveys and understands only general meaning.
2Intermittent user — great difficulty understanding spoken and written English.
1Non-user — essentially no ability to use the language beyond isolated words.

Writing criteria

Examiners score Task 1 and Task 2 equally across four criteria (0–9 each), then average to an overall Writing band.

Speaking criteria

The face-to-face interview is scored on four criteria. Fluency and Pronunciation matter as much as grammar and vocabulary.

Band Descriptors 사용법

  1. 1

    목표 밴드 찾기

    필요 밴드(예: 6.5 또는 7.0) overall 설명 읽기.

  2. 2

    스킬 기준 열기

    Writing·Speaking은 목표 밴드와 한 단계 아래 네 기준.

  3. 3

    한 시도 검토

    Part 2 녹음 듣거나 Task 2 에세이, 한 기준만 염두.

  4. 4

    주간 포커스 설정

    예: "이번 주 Coherence만" 또는 "Fluency만". 그 렌즈로 연습.

기준이 중요한 이유

객관 L/R 점수는 Writing·Speaking 설명 안 함. Descriptors는 채점관 공통 언어.

AI·선생님 코멘트는 TR/CC/LR/GRA 또는 Speaking fluency 언어에 매핑될 때 유용.

자기 평가는 불완전하지만 "영어 더 잘 쓰기" 같은 막연 목표보다 기준 집중 검토가 낫습니다.

학습 활용 예

Writing 7.0 목표. Band 6는 아이디어 발전 제한, Band 7은 전반 명확한 입장.

다음 Task 2 드릴 세 개는 새 어휘 목록 무시, 모든 단락이 같은 thesis 지원하는지만. Writing Checker로 확인.

기준을 읽을 때

  • Writing·Speaking 연습 블록 전, 주간 기준 포커스.
  • Writing Checker·Speaking AI 피드백 후, 점수를 행동으로.
  • 정체: 목표 밴드와 한 단계 아래 비교해 빠진 행동.
